Biography
French painter Carolus redefines portraiture with her innovative use of unconventional materials and techniques, infusing raw textures and rich depths into her captivating artworks.

Born in 1972 and raised in the South of France, Carolus has been preoccupied with art since a young age. After graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York and a fine arts college in Paris, Carolus chose to channel her extensive travels across the globe into her artistic focus on portraiture.

 

Currently residing and working in Miami, FL, Carolus has created her own path in art by adopting a distinctive approach to painting. Employing a rustic, brushless technique, she utilizes unconventional tools like scraps of material such as cardstock or her fingers to apply acrylic to the canvas, imbuing her artworks with a raw and textured quality.

 

Carolus incorporates various mediums such as fabric, gold leaf, and oil pastels into her creations. This blending of materials results in breathtaking textures and unique color combinations, adding depth and richness to her portraiture. Her work stands as a testament to her innovative and experimental spirit as she explores unconventional techniques and materials to breathe life into her portraits.
