Artist Alain Godon

Biography

French Pop Artist, Alain Godon, has garnered global recognition for his colorful, whimsical depictions of iconic city streets. While creating two different artistic techniques, BildoReliefo and QT (“Cutie”), Godon's childlike vision, technical mastery, and colorful style are inherent in both.

Who is Alain Godon?

Alain Godon is a French contemporary artist who has made international headlines for his whimsical, colorful style—marked by deconstruction, humor, and a deep appreciation for architecture. From Paris to New York, Amsterdam to Miami, his works bring cities to life in a way that blends playfulness with technical mastery.

Born in Bourges, France, in 1964, Alain Godon’s artistic journey began on the streets of Paris and Brighton, where he worked as a pavement artist before moving to Saint-Tropez and transitioning to oil painting. Godon’s artistic evolution led him to explore sculpting and digital techniques. In 2008, he introduced BildoReliefo, an innovative process that merges traditional oil painting with digital manipulation, creating three-dimensional, high-resolution prints with shadow effects that enhance depth and texture. More recently, his QT (“Cutie”) technique brings layers of cut paper together in intricate, sculptural compositions.

What are GodonBildoReliefos?

Translated from the Esperanto langauge, godonBildoReliefos is defined as three dimensional images. Applying digital technology to the classical oil painting medium, Godon has created a method for transforming original oil paintings into high-resolution art prints that are mounted on aluminum and hand-signed by the painter.

By "de-constructing" each element of the original oil painting and then "re-constructing" the picture by adding a shadow effect, the artist creates a three-dimensional impression. Each work of art is unique and original since it is created with its own color nuance. The BildoReliefo is printed by PICTO in Paris. Each of Alain Godon's original oil painting printed as a BildoReliefo series is limited to an edition of ten –each version with its own distinctive color finish.

What are QT “Cutie”?

In 2022, Godon created a new artistic technique, QT (“Cutie”), which involves layering different elements of cut paper into into three-dimensional artworks. By assembling many layers of laser-cut paper, Godon is able to establish a three-dimensional effect that is distinct and nothing short of extraordinary. Alain Godon's first QT “study” was exhibited in at the 2018 solo exhibition for Godon presented by the Matisse Museum in Lille in the North of France.

A master of reinvention, Godon refuses to be confined to a single genre, instead weaving painting, sculpture, and digital art into a distinctive style of contemporary Pop Art. Whether reimagining cityscapes or transforming everyday scenes into dreamlike compositions, his work invites viewers into a world where architecture, humor, and nostalgia intertwine.

Godon has exhibited globally with exhibitions in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Aspen, Bali, and the French National Assembly. Beyond his artistry, Godon founded *The Annual Festival for Artists of Tomorrow* in 2009 to provide exposure and opportunities for up-and-coming artists.
