Audra Weaser

Biography

Audra Weaser is a Los Angeles-based painter whose work occupies the space between landscape and emotion, where the visible world dissolves into something felt rather than named. Her paintings are luminous, layered, and unlike almost anything else in contemporary abstraction.

Aura Weaser's process is as distinctive as the work it produces. She begins by building successive layers of pigmented mixed media onto wood panel, allowing the composition to develop intuitively. At a point of resolution, she veils the entire surface in white: an act of deliberate concealment.

From there, the work begins in earnest: using a sander, she excavates back through the layers, making decisive physical marks that determine the final balance of color and form. The result is a painting that glows from within, carrying the visible history of its own making. Watery horizons, mystical forests, and light breaking through gathering weather emerge not from observation, but from excavation.

She holds an MFA in Painting from Claremont Graduate University and has exhibited continuously across the United States for over three decades. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong, Rosewood Resort Abu Dhabi, Mandarin Oriental San Francisco, St. Regis Park City, and the Four Seasons St. Louis, among others. Private collectors include Alice Walton and members of the House of Saud. Works have entered collections in Los Angeles, New York, London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and beyond.

Weaser's paintings have been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Artweek, Artsy Editorial, and LA Weekly, and she has been the subject of solo exhibitions at galleries across the country including JoAnne Artman Gallery New York, George Billis Gallery Los Angeles, Julie Nester Gallery Park City, and Merritt Gallery Washington DC.
