    Alfaro Explores Flora

Exploring new subject matter with this newest series “Wildflowers," Alfaro paints different flora all rendered in bright and soft colors. Applying layers of paint with different spatulas and paintbrushes, Alfaro achieves an incredible sense of dimensionality. The resulting realism captures nature's delicate interplay of form, texture, and color.

The dimensionality of Alfaro’s artistic approach imbues the flowers with an incredible realistic quality, as if the artist has pressed the species on to the canvas. “Wildflowers” resembles the forilegium artwork tradition, collections of botanical illustrations showcasing the diversity and beauty of plant life.

Typically detailed with scientific precision and artistic flair, these compilation capture flora’s delicate interplay of form, texture, and color. Alfaro’s ability to replicate the nature of flowers, their intricate details, unique structure, color, and texture, is nothing short of extraordinary.

    The 'Water Lilies' Series

Impressionism as a source of Inspiration

“The Water Lilies is a series that I have been working on for years and has evolved over time. Since I was a student, Impressionism and European painters have always been my source of inspiration and strongest learning— especially the work of Monet; he is the closest reference I have." Eric Alfaro

Alfaro’s works capture a sense of serenity through impressionist-inspired textures and soft, harmonious color palettes. His detailed yet painterly approach transforms fleeting moments into timeless reflections. By modernizing Impressionism with impasto techniques, he invites viewers into contemplative, dreamlike scenes that balance motion and stillness.

  • "For years I have been painting landscapes of lily ponds, and this new series is like the evolution, or new variant of that theme. On this occasion, the protagonists of the works are the koi," –Eric Alfaro.

    Unfolding of the 'Lily Ponds'

A natural evolution from the artist’s acclaimed 'Waterlilies' series, 'The Koi Series' marks a transformation in Alfaro's exploration of water, light, and movement. After years of refining his vision, Eric Alfaro recognized the presence of koi as an integral yet previously unperceived element within these aquatic gardens. Their vibrant red and orange hues introduce a striking contrast against the deep greens and blues of the landscape, creating a dynamic interplay of color and energy.

Rooted in the fundamental principles of Impressionism, the series embraces the power of complementary colors, harnessing their visual intensity to heighten the viewer’s experience. The koi, gliding through reflective waters, bring a new rhythm and depth to the compositions, further expanding the artist’s ongoing dialogue with nature and perception.

    An Extension of Spring Reverie

"With 'Blossoms,' I wanted to capture the fleeting beauty of Spring blooms in a way that feels both timeless and contemporary," –Eric Alfaro

Through his masterful technique, Alfaro presents viewers with seemingly traditional still-life compositions, featuring exquisite floral arrangements bound by a variety of vases. However, it is Alfaro's surprising twist of intentional disruptive gestures that sets this series apart. By smudging fresh oil paint horizontally across the canvas, Alfaro creates the impression of time passing before the viewer's eyes, adding a sense of movement and transience to his work.

  • "I use paint as a means of expression and experimentation with color, mostly in search of environments that pivot between traditional and contemporary ideology. As I work, my focus remains on the attention to technique, to create a resemblance throughout every series.

One way or another, the spectator can detect a certain dramaticism in each piece, similar to how they may remember an acquaintance, relative or a friend. Their connection with my distinctive style establishes a familiarity in which they can easily identify," –Eric Alfaro.

    Figurative Study

Expanding on his initial portraiture study, Alfaro turns to the figure as an emblem of emotion and nostalgia. Featuring anonymous figures wearing the timeless fashion classic, denim, Eric's figures remind many viewers of a time of adolescence and naivety.

The beautiful texture of the works, rendered with Alfaro's technique, results in visceral depictions of not just people, but moments in time.  The canvas becomes a reflection point for the viewer drawing attention towards memories of emotion and wistfulness. No matter the subject, Eric's technical prowess and textural mastery transforms two-dimensional images into visitable worlds, full of realism, imagination, and color.
