MEET THE ARTISTS
Chance Cooper
Chance Cooper is based in Los Angeles, and his paintings start with memory. He draws on moments from his own life, the ones he holds on to and the ones he has forgotten, and turns them into scenes where playful characters seem ready to share their secrets. He tells layered stories through simple forms and an illustrative line. Words, objects and gestures point the way, and you fill in the rest. Each canvas leaves the ending to you.
Cooper works in series. In his "Song" series, monochrome figures stand against solid white backgrounds, and the paintings carry numbered titles such as The Tenth Song and The Seventeenth Song.
Eric Alfaro
Eric Alfaro was born in Cuba in 1991 and trained at the Provincial Academy of Fine Arts Raúl Martínez in Morón.
His paintings are thick with texture. He builds each surface with brushes and spatulas, so flowers and water seem to lift off the canvas. He often starts from photographs, then shifts the elements and colors until the scene becomes his own. Smudged, blurred passages give the images a sense of movement. Monet is a clear influence. Alfaro describes using paint "as a means of expression and experimentation with color."
