    Cooper's "Song" series, characterized by its striking monochrome figures against solid white backgrounds, has garnered widespread acclaim for its ability to evoke profound emotions and introspection. In "Between Me and You," Cooper expands upon this signature style, delving deeper into the complexities of human connection and the intricate threads that bind us together.

    "At the core of 'Between Me and You' lies a profound exploration of the age-old question: do we shape our own destinies, or are we merely pawns in a larger cosmic game?" says Cooper. "Through my art, I seek to challenge perceptions and spark dialogue about the delicate balance between fate and free will."

  • Between Me and You

    Is a dangerous love story between fate and free will. With strokes of lust, jealousy and deception, this collection brings color to a philosophy that can feel so black and white. Chance thrusts a cast of characters together that live on opposite sides of the debate in this risky social experiment. With hopes to bring both parties in for a group hug, one of them leans in for a kiss…

     

    The exhibition features a series of original works, each a masterful composition that invites viewers to decipher the intricacies of human relationships and the forces that shape our lives. From fleeting moments of connection to the profound impact of choice, Cooper's canvases serve as windows into the human experience, offering glimpses of hope, despair, and everything in between.

    "Bag" Series

    In addition to the unveiling of "Between Me and You," Cooper will also showcase select pieces from his acclaimed "Bag" series, providing a multifaceted exploration of personal narratives and the symbols that define them. 

     

    In his "Bag Series,” Cooper immerses us in an intimate exploration of personal narratives and enigmatic tales, all contained within the confines of a bag. Each canvas in the "Bag Series" is a visual playground, featuring a solid background as the stage for a mesmerizing array of symbols.

     

    Cooper's bold lines skillfully carve out these symbols, weaving a narrative that tells a story, conveys a theme, or evokes a wave of nostalgia. The compositions are kaleidoscopic, a patchwork quilt of imagery that draws the viewer into a labyrinth of personal recollections and hidden memories.

  • The Series Inspiration

    In the summer of 2022, while caring for his ailing mother, Chance Cooper wrestled with existential questions about destiny and volition. In a dream, he found himself on a hill surrounded by mysterious red flowers—a vision that lingered and led him to discover the red spider lily. Intrigued by its fleeting bloom and symbolic significance, Chance crafted a love story around it, weaving together the destinies of four characters. Through Between Me and You, he captured the delicate dance of fate and free will, reminding us of the interconnectedness of life's transient beauty and the enduring power of human connection.

    "As I dug deeper I learned the red spider lily only briefly blooms during the early fall in sunny conditions, more frequently after chaotic rain. I loved how it needed to be granted such a specific life in order to flourish. This inspired me to humanize the flower and create a love story around its cycle. Thus four characters were planted - Spider and Lily along with Sonny and Autumn. One couple has fate and the other free will. In the end, they all need each other to thrive,” Chance Cooper."

    About Chance Cooper

    LA based artist, Chance Cooper is known for testing the morality of his observers with playful images and provocative plots. His work celebrates the sacred art of storytelling and each recurring visit to a piece suggests a new conversation, arousing endless narratives.

     

    As a kid, Chance Cooper grew up skipping from city to city, eventually finding himself with loose legs in Los Angeles - where he would be raised. Chance's artistic style has been molded by the memories of his life, forgotten and not. His work to date is recognized as a playground for his characters to perform their existential secrets. Chance often uses words and objects within his paintings to guide the viewer to a rabbit hole where they can jump in and create their own fling with the image, all while having their morality tested along the way. In many cases, each recurring visit to a piece will evoke a new dialogue within the mind of the observer, spawning endless narratives. 

  • Chance Cooper's artistry celebrates the sacred art of storytelling and his paintings carry the feeling of a page torn from one’s life. With the appearance of a fictional fantasy, the skin of Chance's work is just a layer of what humans do so well of disguising - themselves.
