Buckhead Village: Artworks on Display : Explore the Current Space

Chance Cooper built his reputation on crowds. His crowd-scape paintings, the works that introduced him to galleries and collectors across the United States, placed anonymous, stylized figures into scenes of collective experience: stadiums, concerts, gatherings of people reduced to the essential features of that experience. The figures were never fully described. Just the silhouette of action, rendered in Cooper's flat, illustrative style against a sparse background. The crowd was the subject. Each individual existed only as one node in a larger pattern.

The three paintings now on view at Carousel Fine Art's new Buckhead Avenue gallery represent a clear departure. Here We Go Again, Just You, and Please Save Me dissolve the crowd entirely. What remains is a single figure: a golfer, rendered in full color against a near-empty background. Three works, three different players, three different stances. Cooper's visual grammar is unchanged — the flat treatment, the clean line, the deliberate suggestion over description. But the shift from collective to individual transforms what a viewer is asked to bring. One person, isolated in color against open space, demands a different kind of attention. Each stance carries its own narrative, and Cooper, as always, leaves the story incomplete on purpose.
