Biography

Drawing inspiration from media, popular culture, politics, and societal dynamics, artist Neill Wright sculpts and paints contemporary issues, complexities, and paradoxes within South African and African society.

The multidisciplinary artist from Johannesburg, South Africa, Neill Wright, creates art with meaning, using paint to as a form of social commentary. Using bold colors infused with a sense of humor, Wright's creations span sculpture, printmaking, and painting. His landscapes visualize his unique art language, inviting viewers into a false sense of serenity.

  

Neill Wright's artistic journey began when he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art (Honours) from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town in 2007. During his time at Michaelis, he was honored with the Simon Gerson Prize. In 2009, he furthered his studies with a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art, specializing in printmaking.

 

In recognition of his talent and promise, Neill Wright was named one of the ten emerging South African artists to watch by The Times in 2013. Since then, he has showcased his works in both group and solo exhibitions, participating in numerous South African and international art fairs. His pieces have found homes in private collections across Europe, the United States, Australia, and his native South Africa.
