Belgian-artist Isabelle Scheltjens uses glass to create beautiful glass mosaics of female subjects. Creating her own style of portraiture, Isabelle layers colored glass shards through a delicate process involving color theory and glass-fusion. 

 

After studying at the Antwerp City Institute for Decorative Arts and Crafts, Isabelle Scheltjens was inspired by glass-design to invent her own technique of glass-melting art which involves melting together variously colored, sized, and textured glass pieces at around 800°C.

Isabelle Scheltjens's portraits are inspired by pointillism, a style of painting where dots of paint form images at a distance. Mastering color theory, Scheltjens meticulously plans and layers together her different colored glass shards. Not only does her masterful technique of color produce stunning subjects, but it also adds an editorial feel to the mixed media works.
